Many of us grew up thinking that we had no artistic talent, but even the simple act of choosing a color to represent a feeling or a shape to stand in for an object allows us to experiment with different types of self-expression. Learning about ourselves is the goal, not the quality of our artwork.
Making art of any type can give you new ways to express your thoughts and feelings. The art therapist guides the session by asking questions that prompt you to think, but you have control over the medium – whether it is paint, collage, marker – and you decide what you are expressing.
